All you know the story of how Van Gogh, hacked with Gauguin, in the attack of an embrace cut off his ear. The situation is illustrated by self portraits with a bandaged head. In this dramatic story embarrasses one. The fact that it may be erroneous.
Version 1. Basic
While the Netherlands artist lay in a psychiatric hospital, he came to visit a friend Paul Gaugugen. Van Gogh cherished the dream to create a joint creative workshop right in the walls of the Yellow House, but Hogen his enthusiasm did not share and soon left. With annoyance, the artist inflicted injury, but cut off his not all ear, but only his lobe . After that, he was transferred to the binding department. Perhaps not in vain: there is an opinion that before the act of self-ruling Van Gogh attacked Gauguen with a razor.
Version 2. About friendship and love
The authors of the book "Ear Van Gogh: Paul Gauguen and the Pact for silence" are based on the investigation of the police and believe that not one Van Gogh is guilty of what has happened. In their opinion, not essential ear artist compartment no one else like his good friend Gogen (and sword) while fighting next to the public house. Van Gogh was not confused, carefully wrapped a piece of flesh in the rag and presented as a gift for the girl's easy behavior of Rashel, which paintings were not shared.
Version 3. Fresh
A few years ago, in the newspaper The Telegraph published a different hypothesis. There was a letter of practitioner of the hospital, which proves that suffered not only the pole, but all the oars .
In addition, the author of the study "Ear Van Gogh: This History" caused questions of the personality of the unfortunate addressee of an inquiry souvenir. In her opinion, the unfortunate owner of the legendary ear became not a prostitute and maid brothel Gabriel . She had to get on this job to pay bills after surgery.
It is a pity that at that time the degree of fame Van Gogh has not yet allowed to set the treasure to the auction. This is happening these days, the girl could have to live at the Wangogo ear to deep old age.
One thing is reliably known: all over the world it is difficult to find another asylonous part of the body. The long-suffering ear has become a hero of books and even gave the name of the Spanish group La Oreja de Van Gogh). And in psychiatry there is a term "Van Gogh" syndrome: so the patient's unrestrained desire to operate himself.
Let's play private detectives? Write in the comments, what version it seems to you the most likely! And even share the article with friends. It is not difficult for you, but I am pleased.
In the first weeks of July 2016, in the press, there were three news, associated with Vincent Van Gogh: about the sliced ear of the artist, about the person of the woman, whom he had handed it, as well as about the find of the revolver, from which he shot himself. Such a concentration of publications, of course, is not accidental. It is timed to two events related to each other: July 15, the artist's museum opened an exhibition called "On the verge of madness: Van Gogh and his illness", and on July 12, the debut work of the Franco-Irish Researcher Bernadett Murphy received on July 12 at the US and UK bookstores "Van Gogh's ear". Merphy materials were included in the Exposition of the Van Gogh Museum, dedicated to the last years of the Creator of the "Star Night" and "Sunflows". Read more about the news about Van Gogh at the request of "Jellyfish" tells the journalist Julia Statin.
O Bernadett Murphy and how she did his discoveries, we will talk a little later, and now we will turn to the events of the last two years of life Van Gogh. In 1888, spending two fruitful, but wondering years in Paris, the artist went to the south of France, to Arles. A few months - October 23 - In Arle, Paul Gauguen joined him. The relationship of Van Gogh and Gauguen was smoldered in a month with a little, but on the eve of Christmas - December 23 - Gauguen left. What exactly happened between artists remains unknown. Many years later, in his memoirs, Gaen wrote that a memorable Sunday, on December 23, consisted of quarrels, and in the end he, Gauguen, went to the evening walk, heard heavy breathing and uneven steps in his back, turned around and saw Van Gogh with Open razor in hand. Under the view of Gogen Van Gogh turned around and left. Frightened and upset Gauguen spent in a city hotel. The Van Gogh provided himself went home and cut off a piece of ear to the same razor, put it in an envelope and took a brothel located nearby. There, he handed the envelope with a familiar prostitute named Rachel, which at the sight of the envelope content fainted. Van Gogh returned home, where the police found him the next morning. The artist was unconscious, and he was taken to the city hospital. After recovery (bodily), he did not live in Arles for a long time: residents protested against the "red madman" on the streets of their respectable town. In the spring of 1889, Van Gogh moved to a sanatorium for people with soul disorders of Saint-Remy de Provence and spent there for about a year. In May 1890, Vincent moved to the town of Over-sur-UAZ closer to Brother Teo and his family and on July 27 of the same year, leaving the wheat field, shot himself into the breast from the revolver, but did not die, but managed to return home, where and Dies in his arms at the brother after almost two days - July 29th. He was only 37 years old.
About the fate of Van Gogh and his paintings were written hundreds of books, among them there are monographs, and fictional biographies, and novels. Bernadett Murphy, thirty years ago, settled a few dozen kilometers from Arlya, and in thoughts there was no one book about the artist, but one day she wanted to restore the whole picture of the fateful day - December 23, 1888. And then she decided to reach all available documents related to the life of Van Gogh in Arles. She requested the archives from Provence to California, spent hundreds of hours in museums and libraries, wrote thousands of letters and found new, more precisely, not introduced into the academic circulation of evidence. The interpretation of one of them is controversial (about this below), but the perseverance of Murphy, its bulldogs of a grip and genuine interest in the plot deserve all sorts of admiration.
The first find of Bernadett Murphy is a note with a pattern, from which it follows that Van Gogh cut off to himself, not a mustache uh, as is commonly considered, but all the ear shell. Document dated 1930, its author - Dr. Felix Rei. Rey worked in the Arral Hospital in the winter of 1888, he spent a lot of time with the recoverable artist. The fruit of this short friendship is the "portrait of Dr. Reia" from the collection of GMI named Pushkin and first brought to Amsterdam - especially for the exhibition "On the Edge of Madness". In 1930, the American writer Irving Stone (1903-1989), who worked on the biography of Van Gogh, was addressed to Rey (1903-1989), with a request to remember how the artist's wound looked like. Medic wrote Stone that in his memories Van Gogh cut off his ear almost entirely. In the novel Stone "Thirst for Life", which was released in the United States in 1934, and in the USSR - in 1961, this item was preserved: "He grabbed the right ear in one movement. Only a narrow strip of the lincture remained on the head. "(Per. N. Bannikova). The script of Dr. Reia's letter has been preserved in the personal archive of Irving Stone. It is noteworthy that at the exhibition "On the Edge of Madness" in the Amsterdam Museum Van Gogh, another testimony of Felix Reya, recorded in 1922, is stated in the document that only the goselves survived from the ear of the artist.
Stephen Nefi, co-author of one of the most detailed newest biographies of Van Gogh, disagree with Bernettet Murphy. In an interview with The New York Times, Nefi explained that in addition to Felix Reya in Arle and later in Ovra Van Gogh saw his brother, and his slander Johann Bonger, and the artist Paul Signac, and, finally, Dr. Paul Gasha. None of them left evidence that the ear of Vincent was absent. On the contrary, they at different times argued that the wounds were not visible if the artist looked at the interlocutor of the face, - with the missing ear shell it is hardly possible. Moreover, Dr. Gasha engraved the image of the ear Van Gogh, and if you believe him, the artist cut off myself the bottom of the shell with the lobe, but the rest survived.
Bernaddette Murphy was also able to establish a person's personality, whom Wang Gogh presented an envelope with a bloody ear. In the brothel, her name was Rashel, in reality her name was Gabriel (Gabi). She was 18 years old, in early 1888 she was bitten by a mad dog, and parents, local peasants, took the daughter for treatment at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. The vaccine against rabies helped a young woman, but the family was in debt, and parents gave Gabi to a service to one of the Arral Borders. In the urban archives, Gabrielle was not a registered prostitute, she was probably too young, so the maid was listed in the brothel. Interestingly, the girl worked as a servant for a while and in the "Cafe de La Gar" - the institution belonging to friends Van Gogh. Perhaps the artist was familiar with her as a cafe. In spite of everything Gabrielle safely married and lived a long life. It is noteworthy that in his book, Murphy does not call the surnames Gabi: the author promised the family of this woman to keep the mystery. However, on July 20, 2016, Martin Bailey, Mastyataya Biographer Van Gogh, reported the full name of Gabi influential Edition The Art Newspaper: Gabriel Berlerty. Why Bailey, who has repeatedly advised Bernettet Murphy, did it, we do not know.
Bernettet Murphy also established the identity of two models that posted for Van Gogh during their lives in Arles: a girl named Teresa Katerina Mistral and Peasant Francois Casimir Escal. Finally, Murphy found a petition signed by the townspeople of Arlya, in which they demand to conclude an artist in a madhouse. In addition, the researcher found a police report compiled in the morning of December 24, 1888, when Van Gogh was found unconscious and with a bloody head.
On the Amsterdam exhibition dedicated to the last period in the life of Van Gogh, a rusty revolver system Lefosh is also exhibited. He was found in about the place where the artist fired in herself on July 27, 1890. A researcher from the Van Gogh Museum has reason to believe that this is the weapon that the artist inflicted a deadly wound. The revolver found a local farmer in 1960, but he was in the hands of scientists only in the 2010th year.
Above we mentioned Biograph Van Gogh Stephen Nefi. In the book "Van Gogh. The Life "He and his co-author Gregory White Smith expressed a cautious hypothesis that the artist did not actually commit suicide, and was accidentally killed by a teenager named Rena Secretan (René Secrétan). In the last chapter of life Van Gogh and the truth, a lot of white spots: where the artist took the revolver and where he is his affairs after a shot, as he inflicted such a strange wound, why did not leave a suicide note, as he himself managed to get to the house, if he shot himself Field and so on. In 1956, 82-year-old Secretan contacted a researcher named Victor Duato (Victor Doiteau) and gave him a spare interview. Duato published him in Aesculape magazine in 1957. Secrettan said that the 16-year-old boy came to Over to his father and met Van Gogh, who turned out to be a light target for evil jokes. The artist soon threatened to kill his tormentover; The young man got a revolver and wore it with him. Chatting with Duato, Secretan denied that he was involved in the death of Van Gogh, but Nefi and White Smith are convinced that the teenager's teenager's joke could end with a random shot on July 27; In any case, such an episode would explain a lot in the sudden death of Van Gogh.
Employees of the Van Gogh Louis Van Tilborgh (Teio Medendorp (Teio Meedendorp), which was engaged in the history of the revolver from Overa (from which the artist may have shot himself), under the hypothesis of Nefi and White Smith are not signed - they wrote a critical article published In 2013, in the English magazine The Burlington Magazine. Stephen Nefi, as we saw above, disagree with Bernettet Murphy.
Vincent Van Gogh at the beginning of 1890 wrote Brother Teo: "I was extremely struck by the article sent by you about my paintings. There is no need to explain to you that, in my deep conviction, the article describes not how I actually work, but how I would have to work "(per. P. Melkova). The biographers are involuntarily coming: they write about how their hero should live, and not how he really lived. The reader can choose who to follow in reflections on the fate of the artist. But you can just look at the pictures.
For a long time it was believed that the Dutch painter crippled herself after a grand quarrel with a colleague in the art workshop by the Paul Gaen. However, the writer and historian Martin Bailey found out that it was not the case, writes The Guardian. The reason, in his opinion, was the news about the marriage of Brother Van Gogh. Bailey found evidence that the artist received a letter of the Teo before he cut off his ear, and not after.
The message of his brother came Van Gogh to his house in Arles in the south-east of France on December 23, 1888, the historian is sure. The next night was the famous quarrel between the Dutch artist and the Gaen field.
In his letter the Teo wrote that several weeks ago met his former beloved Jo Bonger. She refused to marry him some time ago, but last week he once again suggested her hand and heart, and then the woman said yes. Van Gogh was stunned by this news. He believed that the marriage of Theo would destroy their close relationship. In addition, the artist was afraid that, focusing on his new family, brother will stop giving him money - by the time Van Gogh did not sell any painting.
Bailey found out that by December 23 Theo had already written the mother, asking permission to marry, and ZhO sent a letter to the eldest brother, the telegram with congratulations of which came from December 23. According to the historian, it was on this day Vincent Van Gogh also received a letter from his brother.
The cut-off of the ear caused strong bleeding, but the artist wrapped him into paper and went to his favorite boutinal, where he gave an amputated part of the body a familiar woman. According to another version described in the book Bernadett Murphy, the painter made such a strange gift not a prostitute, but the daughter of a local farmer serving in a public house. Running paper, a woman fainted. Soon the brothel was caused by the police.
In the morning, on the eve of Christmas, Gogen returned to the house and saw the guard of the order on the porch. Van Gogh at that time slept in his bed, which was pushed by blood.
Theo hoped to spend holidays with their bride, but was forced to go to the hospital to his brother. Van Gogh spent several weeks in the closed ward. January 7, he was discharged. After that, the artist got into the hospital several times, until he left Arles in April 1889. On May 3, Van Gogh arrived in the hospital for the mental Saint-Paple in Saint-Remy de Provence. There he lived a year, continuing to write paintings. In the hospital, he created his famous "Star Night".
In the spring of 1890, the painter moved to the place near Paris Over-sur-UAZ, where on July 27 of the same year he fired himself into the heart of the heart from the revolver. After 29 hours, the famous artist died of blood loss.
Theo after the death of his brother fell ill with a nervous disorder and died in Holland after exactly six months. After 25 years, his remains were reburied next to Vincent's grave at the cemetery in Over-sur-UAZ.
March 30 marks 167 years since the birth of Vincent Van Gogh - the most eccentric, ingenious Netherlands artist with a tragic destiny. He is recognized as one of the most famous and influential artists of all time. And at the same time he suffered from obscurity and poverty throughout the short life. The most interesting facts about the personality and work of the artist are hidden on his canvases.
Vincent Van Gogh was born in a religious family belonging to the highest medium class, in the village of Groot-Zundert, Holland, March 30, 1853. After long sincere looking, classes and travel, he began to engage in painting without formal learning. Its amazing description of landscapes, still lifes, portraits and sketches with their bright colors and subjective prospect produced a revolution in the perception of the world of art. He fought with depression and mental illness, in parallel creating an exciting universe images. Life and career Van Gogh is a rapid journey of forever conflicting and ingenious soul.
1. The happiest time Van Gogh spent in London
In 1873, Vincent went to the British capital to work at the art dealer of the pipital and si. He previously worked with them in the Hague. It was the happiest time in his life. He earned well and even fell in love with the daughter of his mistress Yevgeny Loyer. But she rejected his feelings, as it was engaged. Later he moved to Paris.
2. He created a new masterpiece every 36 hours
Despite the fact that he worked for only 10 years - from 27 years and to his early death in 37 years - Van Gogh was incredibly prolific. Over the years, Vincent Van Gogh has created more than 2 thousand works, of which about 860 - paintings written by oil, and many more drawings and sketches. For each job, he spent only 36 hours.
3. He wrote more than 30 self-portraits
What is Rodnit Van Gogh with his great predecessor, Dutch artist Rembrandt Wang Rhine? That's right - both of them wrote a huge number of self-portraits, more than any of other great artists. Being unknown and poor, Van Gogh did not have funds to pay the work of the model, so he had to write his self-portraits. Van Gogh wrote more than 30 self-portraits. Written at different times of work, they allow us to evaluate all transformation of the soul and creativity Van Gogh. In addition, to save materials, Van Gogh often wrote new paintings on top of old. I wonder how many masterpieces keep the famous canvas Van Gogh?
4. He sold only one of his picture
Van Gogh in life has never been famous as an artist and constantly struggled with poverty. While he was alive, he sold only one picture: "Red Vineyard", which Van Gogh sold for 400 francs just seven months before death. His most expensive picture "Portrait of Dr. Gasha" was sold in 1990 for $ 148.6 million. According to estimates from auctions and private sales, Van Gogh, along with the works of Pablo Picasso, are among the first in the list of the most expensive paintings in the world.
5. Legend of cut ear
One of the most famous legends about the life of Van Gogh touches the story about the cut-off ear. In fact, only the share of the ear was cut off. It happened in Arle in Christmas 1888. The hot spore with Gogen led Van Gogh to such madness that he grabbed a razor and dismissed his ear. In some versions of this story, he was distinguished by the Ear Ucha in a local public house, where he suggested him as a gifting girl. Another version states that in fact, this gauguen cut off the Uhh's Ucha Loom during fencing, and they came up with the story with the dispute in order to avoid arrest. As the situation in fact, it is probably so secret. Very significant that Van Gogh perpetuated his wound in one of his self-portraits.

6. He was mentally ill
After the incident with the converted ear, Van Gogh was hospitalized to the nearby Hôtel-Dieu hospital. As soon as he recovered from the huge loss of blood, he was discharged. Unfortunately, after that he fell into deep depression. The artist was forced to spend the night in the hospital, and during the day he wrote pictures. The paint painter was applied not only by appointment: in letters to brother Teo Van Gogh recognized that he loved to collect paint residues after completing the work and eat them. This addiction played with a painter. An evil joke: in the colors were given lead, which even in small quantities can cause irreparable harm to mental health.
7. He wrote his most famous work in the hospital for mentally ill
"Starry Night" may have his most famous work, was written in a psychiatric hospital in Saint-Remy de Provence, France. He voluntarily admitted that he came there to recover from the nervous breakdown of 1888. The picture shows the view from the window of his bedroom. Curious: Astronomical calculations have shown that the configuration of the Star Sky June 19, 1889 roughly coincides with the vision of Van Gogh. For example, in letters to Brother Teo Van Gogh called this picture by etude. And this is truthfully. The artist depicted a landscape from nature.
8. The world found out about Van Gogh because of his daughter-in-law
Most of the posthumous success of Van Gogh can be attributed to his daughter-in-law Johanne, his brother Teo's wife, who devoted himself to popularizing his heritage after the death of the artist. Most of the works of Van Gogh were lost, as many people considered his work is useless. It is rumored that even his own mother got rid of the full drawers with the paintings of the son.
9. Van Gogh was a missionary
For Vincent, with the delight of reading "about the imitation of Christ," to become a servant of the Lord meant first of all to devote himself to concrete ministry to the neighbor, in full compliance with the gospel postulates. And great was his joy, when in 1879 he managed to receive a missionary in the coal mining region of Belgium. During this time, he survived the spiritual awakening, which he inspired him to abandon all his worldly possessions and start living as a beggar. The church authorities considered that it is inappropriate for the representative of the Church, and he was removed from office.
10. He did not have education
In 1880, Vincent enters Brussels to the Academy of Arts. However, due to an irreconcilable nature, he quickly throws it and continues artical formation by self-taught, using reproductions and regularly engaged in the pattern.
11. He wrote more than 800 letters
Few of artists, holding a pen, left us their observations, diaries, letters whose importance would be comparable to them in the field of painting. In addition to the fact that Van Gogh was self-taught, he was still a talented author. Vincent wrote almost as many letters as the paintings (OK 800 appeals, mainly to his brother Theo). Van Gogh and Teo tied not only blood relations, but also real mental intimacy. After the death of Vincent Teo, it tried to organize a posthumous exhibition of the artist's works in vain, but he could not survive the losses of his beloved brother: literally after six months the teo overtook the mental disorder, and soon he died.

12. Van Gogh died with the words "sadness will last forever"
On July 27, 1890, Van Gogh fired himself into the stomach from the revolver right in the middle of the field. He managed to reach the house and climb up in his room. He died in two days after the incident. He spent the last minutes with his brother Theo, who heard his last words: "The sadness will last forever."

Scientists offered a new version of history with sliced ear Van Gogh
Vincent Van Gogh, "Self-portrait with sliced ear", 1889
Author RBC style
November 3, 2020.
Specialists from the University Medical Center Groningen made such a conclusion by analyzing the letters of the Netherlands artist to Brother Teo
According to BBC, scientists concluded that the impressionist could suffer from alcoholic withdrawal syndrome, expressing in the attacks of Breda. During the next episode, he probably cut off his ear.
In his letters, brother Teo Painter called these cases "a simple attack of the artist's madness", and later the "sincere and nervous fever". Scientists had to read hundreds of letters, as well as to blast the words of the artist with the data of medical records to establish that Van Gogh experienced two episodes of nonsense caused by the abandonment of alcohol, after he cut off his left ear. Despite confidence, scientists warn that their conclusions cannot be final due to the lack of testimony of the patient himself.
Scientists also found that Van Gogh suffered from border disorder of personality, bipolar disorder and hidden epilepsy. The last chronic disease is characterized by an alarming state, nonsense and hallucinations. Hidden epilepsy could develop by the artist due to alcohol, restless sleep and irregular nutrition. The presence of schizophrenia by the artist researchers refute.
Since additional surveys, such as MRI, were not available during the life of the artist, no one hundred percent confidence in these diagnoses. According to Professor Psychiatry Willem Nole, the research coordinator, Van Gogh could "be understood and teen" certain things in their letters.
"Although texts contain a lot of information, we must remember that he wrote them not to his doctors, and family members and other relatives to inform them, calm or call for something. Therefore, our article on the diseases of Van Gogh will not be exactly the last, "he said.
According to one of the versions, the artist lost his ear during a dispute with his other field by Gaen. It was believed that on December 23, 1988, Gogen could not stand the tense conversation and left Van Gogh alone in the house on Laartin Square. The artist in anger grabbed the ug of ear with a razor, wrapped her in the newspaper and went to Boutinal, where he handed a piece of flesh to a familiar prostitute. Nutro police officers took the artist to the hospital.
Earlier, the writer Martin Bailey, Van Gogh's work specialist, announced documents confirming that in the evening, when the artist lost his ear, he received a letter from the TEO with the news about his engagement. The next morning, Van Gogh found in the bloody bed unconscious and put in the hospital with a diagnosis of "Acute mania with common madness".
Vincent Van Gogh influenced the painting of the XX century. He wrote 2100 caved, in particular, about 860 oiled paintings - landscapes with olive trees, cypresses, sunflowers, scenes of the countryside of France. Although the process of creating many of his works is associated with a mental disorder, experts confirm that the artist rarely wrote during periods of psychosis. Despite the inner confusion, Van Gogh was motivated to be improved in painting, and his only medicine called "strong friendship." He died on July 29, 1890, two days after an attempt to end with life.
There are several versions, why Netherlands artist Vincent Van Gogh cut off his ear. According to one of them, such an act was associated with the madness of the artist, and therefore is not explained by the logic. Partly, this is true, but that's what caused the disease - the opinions disagree .
Van Gogh in the French town Arles intended to create an art studio, the money for he gave him the Brother Teo. In the famous house with yellow walls, Paul Gajan settled. It was in him Van Gogh saw his partner. But after a while he decided to leave the monastery of art, which Vincent could not stand. He believed that his dream of a creative studio was collapsing with the departure of Gaen. To cope with the annoyance, the Creator and cut off the ear of the ear.
There is a hypothesis that the artist cut off all the ear shell, and not just a lobe. There is a version that Gogen during a turbulent quarrel with a sword compartment Van Gogh Ear. Creators allegedly could not share a woman among themselves - a prostitute Rachel, in which both were in love.
The British researcher Martin Bailey claims that Van Gogh cut off his ear after he learned that his brother Theo marries. Biographer Van Gogh explains that the artist was afraid to lose psychological and material support. The artist allegedly was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and a quarrel with Gauguen became the last straw: to relieve spiritual anxiety, Van Gogh inflicted injury.
Sliced ear wrapped in fabric, he presented a 18-year-old maid that serves in Bordell, Gabriel Berlerty. According to another version of "GIFT" received a favorite prostitute of Hogen, mentioned above Rachel. The girl deploying a bundle, fainted.
After self-ruling, Vag Gogh was defined in a psychiatric hospital, to the bin-ended department, although the artist himself did not consider himself as such. He agreed only with the fact that his seizures occur periodically.
In psychiatry, and now the specific Wang Gogh syndrome, which implies the injury to himself.
Probably the most commonly famous case is the story of a sliced ear Van Gogh. Of course, this act in itself is not so unique, but the very fact that he made his famous artist, and a mystery, wiping this incident, still did their job. Now even the most unloved reader, taking a book about Van Gogh, will definitely try to find any information about this case.
Small house in the province, or depression attacks
In 1888, Vincent Van Gogh removed a small house in a small southern French town called Arles. There, a Dutch painter, who suffered from depression attacks, experienced periods of madness and flour of creativity. Here he wrote several scenes of the countryside of France and the famous series of paintings "Sunflowers".
Exhausted by despair and loneliness, Van Gogh hoped for new acquaintances with creative personalities who would provide him with communication, and perhaps and would help reduce its financial dependence on the younger brother Theo, who always supported Vincent Van Gogh. A lonely artist repeatedly appealed to his friend Gauguen asking him to join him. And finally, he won his plea. So the story of Van Gogh's ear begins.
Entertainment of two friends, or what two artists argue about
On October 23, Paul Gauguen knocked on the door of the little housing Van Gogh. They began to study numerous canvases in art galleries, cast their leisure to local brothels. Their relations were rather stormy. Two post permissions were constantly arguing, ranging from expenditures on a household and ending with the advantages of Delacroa or Rembrandt.
Paul Gaen constantly grumbled on the dirt in the studio. Moreover, he threw out all the bedding supplies Vincent Van Gogh. And immediately sent for his own who had to deliver directly from Paris. A small house quickly filled with atmosphere of tension. Paul was increasingly concerned about the state of Vincent, which periodically kept thoughtful silence, and at times they showed unstable flashes of madness. Gogen often wrote about it in his letters to Teo Van Gogh, the youngest brother of his friend.
Another fear of madness, or scream despair
Finally, two days before Christmas, which Van Gogh, by the way, never loved, Paul informed him that he plans to return to Paris. In the evening, he went for a walk, when it was unexpectedly behind him Nastig Vincent and began to threaten him with a razor. Gaugugen calmed his friend, but just in case he spent on this night in a nearby hotel. Did it be afraid then to assume how this decision would affect further events and the ear of Van Gogh. Vincent returned to his empty house. Again one ...
All his dreams for the eternal stay next to him, Hogen's fields were destroyed. In the next seizure, the artist took a razor, pulled himself to the left lobe his ear and cut it off. The torn ear artery began to bleed strongly, and Vincent bandaged with a wet towel. But on this story about the ear Van Gogh does not end. The artist carefully wrapped him into a newspaper and went to the Bordell, located next door where he found a familiar field of Hogen. He handed over this convolution and asked to carefully store him. Seeing the contents, the poor woman fainted, and Van Gogh stalking, went home.

An alarmed woman decided to inform the police about this incident, and the next morning the artist was found in bed unconscious, filled with blood. He was placed in a local hospital. Vincent Van Gogh repeatedly asked him to visit him. But Paul Gaugaen never came. Hospitalization continued for several weeks, and then Van Gogh returned to his little house. There, he continued to write his works and even documented the last violent episode, which readers know as a history about the ear of Van Gogh, in the form of a self-portrait with bandaged bindings. Manic seizures from time to time continued, and most of the next year Vincent Van Gogh spent in the psychiatric clinic of Saint-Remy. But the treatment did not save the famous artist's discussed psyche, and he shot himself on July 27, 1890.
The most famous moment in life, or what is the loneliness
What else can I say about the sliced ear Van Gogh? The story that occurred on December 23, 1888 remains the most famous fragment from the life of the famous artist. Most of the story about the events was compiled by the words of the Gajen field, which the police initially suspected this act. Until now, in the environment of art historians and biographers there is an opinion that in fact the situation looked somewhat different. Most likely, this story served only the cover, which was invented by two artists to defend the Hojn, who chopped Van Gogh's ear with his fencing sword during the next quarrel. Considering how Vincent desperately wanted to keep his friendship with the field, this version can also be believed.
Nevertheless, more friends have never seen each other. And this story was forever remained unsolved secret, which was interested not only to contemporaries, but many today's admirers of the artist of a talented artist. Moreover, it turns out, there is even a song that is called "Van Gogh's ear". Kashin Paul, a well-known modern performer, apparently tried to transfer to her emotions that Vincent Van Gogh experienced at the time of this insane act.
